A Note from our President Sue Biss
I’m delighted and honoured to be writing this note to you as Yarmouth WI President. Since our inception, just over 2 years ago, due to some very hard work by our original committee, and our inaugural “go and get ‘em” President, we have gone from strength to strength as a group.
Our members are an eclectic bunch, with many varied backgrounds, attributes and outlooks. We have all found and forged friendships which would probably not have existed without the WI. And following our BBC showing, the solidarity of the WI as a national institution has become apparent – how wonderful to feel part of such a strong organisation – and just for women to boot!
I am grateful to so many of our team for the work they undertake tirelessly behind the scenes. Skills and attributes have come to the forefront which would perhaps have lain hidden without such outlets.
As well as enjoying ourselves, we are also keen to contribute to life in our locality as much as possible. We were delighted with our summer fete, and took a strong stand to support British dairy farmers, whilst also lobbying supermarkets to reduce the amount of packaging they use. In addition, we have sent cakes and other necessities to troops in Afghanistan, and knitted jumpers for babies in Africa orphaned and affected by Aids. These are to name but a few of our activities.
We love to welcome new members, and to see our loyal existing members every month. Our backgrounds, and ages, are all different. I balance having 4 lively young boys and a part-time job as a Bursar, and the WI is a very good outlet for the me who wants to enjoy life with friends!
